Scripture Study: PaRDeS
PaRDeS is a fun and special way to explore stories in the scriptures! It’s a Hebrew word that stands for four different ways we can understand God’s message. Imagine the Bible like a tree with four branches: the P is for Peshat, which means the simple, easy-to-understand meaning; the R is for Remez, which shows us hints or deeper meanings; the D is for Derash, which invites us to ask questions and learn even more; and the S is for Sod, which reveals hidden truths that only God can show us. By looking at the Bible in these four ways, we can discover even more about God's love.

Tikkun Olam: The Restoration
Tikkun Olam means "repairing the world." It’s the idea that we can help make the world a better place by being kind, helping others, and doing what’s right. God made the world beautiful, but sometimes things get broken or people feel hurt. When we do good things—like sharing, forgiving, or taking care of the earth—we help fix what’s broken and make the world more like the way God wants it to be. It’s like being a helper for God to spread love and light everywhere!

About Lesson

His delight is in the Torah of the Lord, and on his Torah he meditates day and night.” -Psalm 1:2

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” -2 Timothy 3:16-17

In this child-friendly lesson, encourage engagement, reflection, and practical action, helping young learners understand and apply scripture to their daily lives

Lesson for Children

Today, we’ll learn how the scriptures teach us lessons about how to live and make good choices. For example, when Nephi says, “And my father dwelt in a tent” (1 Nephi 1:46 [2:15]), it reminds us that Lehi trusted God so much he left behind his home and lived in a tent. Lehi’s family shows us how to put God first, even when it’s hard. We can think about how we can trust God and create a place in our own homes to grow closer to Him.

Activity

  • Materials: Index cards with scripture verses that have moral lessons (ev. Enos 1:27 [1:17], Moroni 7:18 [7:19], or Neum 3:23).
  • Instructions: Read one verse aloud as a class. Ask the children to work together to figure out the lesson the verse teaches. Write their answers on a board or large paper. Discuss how those lessons can help us in our daily lives.

Discussion Questions

  1. What can we learn from Lehi’s family living in a tent?
  2. Why is it important to follow God, even when it’s hard or uncomfortable?
  3. How can your family create a space where you can learn about God and feel close to Him?

Activities and Reflection

Meditation

Have the children close their eyes. Say: “Imagine you are living in a tent with Lehi’s family. Think about what it might feel like to leave everything behind because God asked you to. Now imagine your home as a place where you can feel close to God. How can you make your home a special place to learn about Him this week?”

Additional Discussion Questions

  1. What does Lehi’s choice to live in a tent teach us about trusting God?
  2. How can we create spaces in our lives where we can feel closer to God?
  3. What lessons can we learn from Jesus about following God, even when it’s hard?

Suggestions for Action

  1. Work with your parents to set apart or designate a spot in your home where you can pray, read scriptures, or talk about God as a family, like a home temple.
  2. Talk as a family about one small thing you can give up for a week to focus on God, like extra screen time or a treat, and use that time to study or serve others.
  3. Draw a picture of Lehi’s tent or another scripture story and write what lesson it teaches at the bottom.

Closing Thought and Activity

End by sharing this simple message, or your own thoughts on this lesson:

“Lehi and his family trusted God and made sacrifices to follow Him. This week, think about what small sacrifice or choice you can make to put God first. Maybe it’s saying a prayer, helping someone in your family, or taking a little time to read your scriptures. Remember, when we follow God’s lessons, we grow closer to Him and help others feel His love too.”
